Mandarin Oriental Mayfair opens in London

by The Hotel Spotter

Mandarin Oriental has opened its second London property, with Mayfair’s first new build in over a decade.

Situated on Hanover Square, with 50-rooms and 77 private residences, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair becomes the group’s 15th European hotel and opens 24 years after the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park.

Designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the Vierendeel structured building — one of the first in the UK — provides wide internal space and a contemporary townscape façade, clad with burnt red brick ‘baguettes’, inspired by the Georgian terraces that surround the hotel.

Interiors have been designed by British based Studio Indigo, who have imagined every guest room as a jewellery box, with a palette that includes a rich emerald green, regal maroon and tranquil turquoise, using fine timbers, marbles, soft fabrics and carpets, bespoke lighting and furniture complemented by metallic finishes in brass, bronze and gold.

Award-winning chef Akira Back heads up his eponymous Japanese restaurant, with 148 seats, and a 14-seat chef’s table. The late-opening ABar Lounge will be joined by the ABar Rooftop, opening later this year.

The subterranean The Spa at Mandarin Oriental Mayfair features a 25-metre swimming pool, sauna, vitality pools and experience showers, a state-of-the-art gym, personal training, reformer Pilates, nutritional consultations, physiotherapy and NormaTec massage technology.
