InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach opens

by The Hotel Spotter

The former Crowne Plaza has reopened as the InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach, with the second phase of the refurbishment now complete.

The 198-room property features an ocean-facing infinity pool and terrace, Club InterContinental lounge, pickleball courts, and an Èliva Spa.

Leaning into the position on the city’s eastern shoreline, the infinity-edge pool is heated year-round and surrounded by private cabanas, sun lounges and layered seating as well as curved planters and, during winter, fire pits.

The Èliva Spa and Shutters Restaurant & Bar offer something for both guests and locals, while curated experiences of the wider region offer an exploration of Sydney’s famous coastline.

Melinda Lampier, general manager of InterContinental Sydney Coogee Beach and portfolio general manager for IHG Hotels & Resorts, Salter Brothers, says: “These new experiences reflect our vision to create a refined yet relaxed coastal retreat, where guests can connect with Coogee’s natural beauty while enjoying a truly elevated stay. From the year-round heated pool to the ocean-facing terrace, we’ve designed spaces that invite both locals and international visitors to linger, unwind and experience the rhythm of the coastline.”

The original building opened almost a century ago as The Oceanic Hotel and became something of a landmark. It was demolished in 1987 and rebuilt, first as a Holiday Inn and later as a Crowne Plaza.
