In one of London’s most anticipated openings in years, Six Senses has made its UK debut in the former Whiteleys building in Bayswater.
The former department store closed in 2018 and has been transformed following a £1.5 billion makeover by Foster + Partners. The mixed-use development includes the Six Senses hotel and spa as well as shops, restaurants, cinema, gym and flats.
The property’s 109 rooms and suites, as well as 14 branded residences, feature the building’s iconic art deco heritage. The building retains its Grade II-listed facade while the restored grand staircase, once the defining feature of the original department store, now ascends through three floors up to the glass-domed ceiling.
The 2,300sq m spa features London’s first hotel magnesium pool — supporting muscular recovery and nervous system regulation — as well as a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, a 325sq m fitness centre, yoga and mindful movement studios, and 13 wellness spaces and six treatment rooms encompassing cryotherapy, flotation, red-light therapies, a traditional hammam and a sensory suite.
Nick Yarnell, general manager of Six Senses London, says: “We wanted Six Senses London to feel like a hotel that embraces you from the moment you arrive. Warm, genuine, and instinctive, yet delivered with exacting standards and quiet precision. As part of The Whiteley, we honour the heritage of British craft and innovation while creating something that gives back to the neighbourhood and feels deeply connected to its community.”
